UPTON Scudamore mother and daughter duo Diane and Leanne Hier kept it in the family to secure a one-two finish at Bank Holiday Monday’s Big T Triathlon in Trowbridge.

Frome Triathlon Club’s Leanne starred as she came home first in one hour and 19 minutes in the sprint event, with mum Diane, who races for Avon Valley Triathletes, winning the vet category as she crossed the line behind her daughter in second place.

The Hiers both competed at the world age group triathlon championships in 2012 and Leanne, 32, was delighted with the family’s podium placings at the inaugural Big T.

“Mum and I do a lot of events together and it’s definitely always competitive but we haven’t had a lot of one-twos, so that was great,” she said.

“It was pretty much the first event for a lot of people after winter training, so it was good to see how they were getting on.

“We’re getting ready for the British sprint championships, which are in Eton Dorney (on May 17).”

Diane, 52, added: “It was a very well-run race and we were really happy to both do well.”

The Big T, which was organised by Hot Chilli Triathlon Club, was selected as the first race of the South West Triathlon Series and was based at Trowbridge Sports Centre.

Will Russell (1:10) was the male winner of the sprint event whilst Keith Penny (2:08) and Jo Bevan (2:47) were the mens’ and womens’ winners of the longer distance race.
