TOP Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May surprised car enthusiasts by turning up out of the blue for Castle Combe’s Japfest this weekend.

The team arrived to film at the Castle Combe race circuit for the event on Saturday, billed as Europe’s biggest and best Japanese car show.

Delighted fans posted their pictures of the world-famous presenters driving Fiat 124, an MGB GT and a Peugeot on the internet and on Twitter shortly afterwards.

Amateur photographer Andy Price travelled down from Stoke for the festival and rushed round to see the filming after his 22-year-old son Simon spotted the trio.

He said: “It looked as though they were doing one of the challenges. They did a bit where James May couldn’t get the roof up and down on his car and they appeared on the track two or three hours later.

“The three of them went round the track once and then it came to the next one and there was no sign of Clarkson. They were racing around against Japanese cars. They were against all sorts of cars.

“It was a very pleasant surprise to be honest, it’s not one of these things you expect to see them at.

"It was a proper scrum, the amount of people there with their camera phones trying to get pictures while they were doing their bit.”
