A group of 50 students will be performing on stage in front of hundreds of people at Disneyland Paris.

The students, aged 11 to 13, were chosen to perform after auditioning for the Disney Performing Arts Outreach Programme.

They will perform a medley of show songs including from Billy Eliot, We Will Rock You, The Wizard of Oz and The Lion King.

Students not performing will be involved in organising hair, make- up, wardrobe and filming a video of the show.

Their performance, during half term at the end of this month, will be in the Magic Kingdom in the Videopolis Theatre at Discoveryland where previous Disney shows such as The Lion King have been performed.

Rebecca Merchant, drama teacher at Devizes School and choreographer for the performance, said: “This is a very exciting opportunity for the students of Devizes School.

"The audition process was difficult with not much time to prepare, however the students and staff involved worked tirelessly to produce an entertaining and high-quality show.

"We were ecstatic when we were accepted. Now, the rehearsal timetable is extensive to produce the best show we have ever done.”

Katie Sims, a Year 12 student taking part, said: “I am really lucky to have been picked to go on this fantastic trip. I will get the opportunity to film the performance and I will be making a video about it, my media GCSE will come in very handy, I can’t wait!”

Stuart MacFarlane, head of the creative and performing arts faculty at the school and who is directing and producing the performance, said: “This is an exciting opportunity and really emphasises the quality of our performing arts at Devizes School.

“Year in, year out we produce productions of exceptionally high quality for the public of Devizes. We now get to showcase our talents to an international audience.”
