McCarthy & Stone reveals Marlborough retirement flats scheme
Retirement apartment developer McCarthy & Stone has revealed proposals to convert the Clarke and Rodway Garage on Granham Hill, Marlborough.
Residents can see the McCarthy & Stone proposals at a public exhibition on Tuesday, May 27, between 3-7pm at The Enterprise Suite at St John’s School.
The garage site was the subject of a planning application for a retirement accommodation development of 36 apartments by Pegasus Homes in 2008, turned down on various grounds including insufficient information and lack of affordable housing.
But the application established certain principles, says McCarthy & Stone.
The company now has an interest in the site and after reviewing the previous plans, is proposing a smaller, scheme of 27 one and two-bed luxury age-exclusive apartments better suited to the 'unique nature of Marlborough'.
Shane Paull, of McCarthy & Stone, said: “We have spent time carefully researching the architecture and character of the local area to ensure that what we are proposing is a sensitive fit to Marlborough, as well introducing a specialist form of housing which will help meet an identified, and growing, need in the area.
“We want to hear from the local community before we submit a planning application and will be displaying our plans at the exhibition.
"Our project team will be at the exhibition to answer questions and listen to feedback and the comments we receive will help us tailor our proposals.”
