SWINDON Youth under 15s completed a remarkable league and cup double at the weekend.

In only their second season of development football, playing in the Midlands Premier League, they beat Romulus 1-0 in the Major Cup Final at Mansfield Town’s One Call Stadium.

The victory seals a remarkable season for Ady Wilkinson’s Swindon Supermarine-based team. The previous week they managed to get the three points required for the league crown with a victory only achieved with 12 minutes left on the clock.

On Saturday George Evans got the only goal of the game to give his side the win. Wilkinson told the Advertiser of his pride in what his side had achieved this season.

“We had a feb weekend, it was a fab two weeks really,” said Wilkinson. “It was a nervous start by both teams, because it was a cup final and we were on a big pitch. We carved open two or three early chances, the opposition were very organised, they had a couple of good centre backs and we had to work hard to open the game up.

“We made a couple of changes in the second half and passed the ball much better. About 15-20 minutes into it George Evans was put through by Matty Grabe, George ran on to it and side footed into the bottom corner.

“Then we settled on the ball and they went a bit aerial after the goal.

“We stayed solid at the back and were comfortable - to be honest we dominated the second half.

“I’m over the moon with the boys, we had the last game of the season last week, to win the league. We scored with 12 minutes to go to win it, and got one more to make it safe.

“I have never worked with such quality lads. I’ve never been involved with a group of players that have applied themselves so amazingly well. We only have a squad of 16 players but each one of them adds value to the team, they deserve every single accolade they get. No one’s ever done a double in that league so it’s a big achievement.”
