Urchfont village to get taste of Masterchef

This Is Wiltshire: John Torode John Torode

Last year’s BBC Masterchef winner has agreed to headline a culinary event due to take place in Urchfont later this year.

Natalie Colman, who impressed judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace and was taken to the heart of viewers all over the country, will attend Taste Wiltshire, a food and drink festival highlighting the best of county cuisine on Sunday, September 14 from 10am to 4pm.

The event is the brainchild of villager Jenny Holt. She said: “I felt we ought to do something in the village to bring the spotlight onto the wonderful food and drink that is produced in the county. I floated the idea and it really took off.

“I knew we had to have some kind of draw so we approached Natalie and she readily agreed.

“She’s lovely. Very down to earth. I’m sure her presence will bring a lot of people in.”

There will also be cookery demonstrations from Peter Vaughan’s cookery school.

There will be a children’s competition for the best gingerbread man and the results of the village’s chilli challenge will be announced.

Mrs Holt explained: “I bought 50 chilli plants and challenged people to grow their own peppers, then bring the plant back with something they’ve cooked with the chillis they’ve grown.”

She added: “The event will be a cross between a food festival and a village show.

“Although entry is free, there will be a raffle with all proceeds going to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance Appeal.”
