WILTSHIRE Council has made a Big Pledge to support a charity dedicated to bringing cancer treatment closer to patients’ homes.

As part of Wiltshire’s Big Pledge, a campaign to encourage people to make a positive difference to themselves or their community, Wiltshire Council will raise money for cancer charity Hope for Tomorrow.

Hope for Tomorrow, founded in 2003, is a national charity which uses Mobile Chemotherapy Units to reduce the long distances of travel and waiting times for treatment that patients can often endure. These units can treat 20 patients a day.

Leader of Wiltshire Council, Jane Scott, said: "The work that Hope for Tomorrow and their mobile cancer units do is really relevant to a large, rural county such as Wiltshire. It makes life much more comfortable for many people having to go through cancer treatment and it is a cause that I am very proud to be able to support.”.

Rosa Woodley, events and community fundraiser for Hope for Tomorrow said: “We are delighted to become the charity partner of Wiltshire Council. As we completely rely on public support, relationships with organisations like this are extremely important to us. It is even more significant due to us having a Mobile Chemotherapy Unit here in Wiltshire, so the money they raise will go directly towards supporting cancer sufferers in the county.”
