A 21-YEAR-OLD who admitted burgling a house is to be assessed to see if he is suffering from schizophrenia.
James Cherry was warned that he is facing a jail after pleading guilty to carrying out the raid on a house on Falmouth Grove, Parklands, on April 24.
Paul Trotman, defending, asked for the case to be adjourned so a psychiatric report could be carried out on his client.
He said Cherry’s father suffered from the condition and the probation service were concerned he may also have it.
“He is 21 and that is the age it does manifest itself,” Mr Trotman told Swindon Crown Court.
Judge Tim Mousley QC remanded Cherry, who was living in a hostel in Croft Road, Old Town, in custody to Friday July 4 so the report could be prepared.
He said: “You have pleaded guilty to a serious offence which is inevitably in my view going to result in a prison sentence.
“You will come back to this court to be sentenced in a few weeks time, by then a pre-sentence report and psychiatric report will be prepared on yo.”
