The Dauntsey Cancer Research Run, which was first organised by Gina Compton five years ago, has become increasingly popular with more taking part every year.

The current organisers, Helen Merron and Linda Fisher competed in the very first run, when there were only seven competitors.

There were 30 entries in 2012, 46 in 2013 and this year 77 competitors completed the circular route along six miles of country lanes, through Little Somerford and Great Somerford, and back to base at The Green, Dauntsey.

First finisher was Alan Barnes in 37.12 , just 47 seconds short of the course record which is held jointly by Amy Clark and Brian Cooke.

First female finisher was Emily Croucher in 51.30.

Helen Merron said: "We were lucky to have sponsorship from Watson Fuels of Brinkworth, and we appreciated donations from a couple of other local companies.

"This was a great help, and a raffle and sale of cakes boosted our takings.

"A total of £1,005 was raised for Cancer Research UK and we'd like to thank everyone who helped to make the run so successful."
