Angus Macpherson, Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon, is in hospital after apparently suffering a heart attack while fulfilling an appointment in Trowbridge.

Mr Macpherson, who was voted into office in November 2012, was taken to hospital this morning.

He is thought to be in a serious condition and his diary has been suspended while he undergoes treatment.

Discussions are currently underway into who will be taking on responsibility for Mr Macpherson’s duties while he recovers in hospital.

A spokesman for his office said: "Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon Angus Macpherson has been taken ill while undertaking his duties this morning.

"Mr Macpherson has been taken to hospital.

"Further media updates will be given if and when appropriate."
