Children and staff at Queen’s Crescent Primary School, Chippenham, took part in a ‘Bling Your School Journey Day’ where pupils were asked to decorate their bike, scooters and feet.

It was one of a series of events organised jointly by charity Sustrans and the school to promote active travel and celebrate two new road crossings nearby.

Children decorated their bikes in a variety of styles and objects with plenty of tinsel, balloons, cuddly toys and fairy lights. The most creative won prizes.

Miss Sarah Barker, the school’s Bike It Plus Champion said: “I’m delighted with the efforts the children made and the number who have taken part. It is a great way of encouraging pupils to travel to school in an active way.”

Jo Collett, Bike It Plus officer for Wiltshire, said: “Walking, scooting and cycling to school is a great way for our children to get the exercise they need every day to keep healthy, and research shows it helps them to learn better in the classroom.”
