Pupils from local schools in Calne and Chippenham attended an academic bursary assessment day at one of Wiltshire’s top independent schools.

St Margaret’s Preparatory School, Calne, runs the day for children who are interested in obtaining a place in Year 3 or above.

This year, children are aiming to secure places in both Year 3 and 4 from September 2014.

The awards come at the same time as the school is celebrating success for its Year 6 pupils who have once again all gained entry to their chosen senior schools, many with scholarships which recognise outstanding ability in areas which include academia, sport and the performing arts.

Headmistress Karen Cordon said: "I would like to congratulate all of our pupils who have passed entrance exams and won scholarships.

"They have all worked very hard to achieve success. We are also delighted that we are able to offer bursaries to local pupils.

"Our intention is to extend our education opportunities to the wider community and to those children who show academic promise, but whose families have limited financial means."
