Trowbridge mayor Glyn Bridges has named Dorothy House Hospice Care as the charity he will support for the civic year 2014-15.

Dorothy House, based in Winsley, also has an outreach centre in Trowbridge, and Cllr Bridges said: “They do a superb job within the community; they do a huge amount in Trowbridge. I’ve lost friends to cancer and the care they received from the charity was excellent.”

Deputy mayor Roger Andrews has also decided to make Dorothy House, which provides bereavement support as well as palliative care, his mayor’s charity for the following civic year.

Jayne Chidgey-Clark, Dorothy House director of patient services, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen by the mayor as Charity of the Year.

“Being part of the Trowbridge community is important to us and with this backing we hope to be able to provide more care and support in the area.”
