Devizes’ male majorette troupe raised laughs and money for its charity Contact a Family in Devizes Market Place on Saturday.

It was the first time the Major Wrecks had put on a standalone street performance in the town for a few years.

Member Danny Holton, 68, of Melksham, said: “We did three 35-minute sessions and up to 200 people came to watch. Some people came back to see us during the day. The crowd enjoyed it, we always get a good cross section of people, from youngsters, mums and dads to more mature people. People can really see the funny side of our performances.”

The Major Wrecks had been practising new moves since the beginning of January to perfect the routines before the summer, when it is performing at carnivals and other events most weekends.

Twelve members took part and were accompanied by three girl mascots plus helpers collecting money in buckets. The day raised £417 for Contact a Family, which helps children and young adults with special needs.
