The Chippenham Harriers five mile road race and family fun runs take place this Sunday and entries are available on the day.

More than 100 people have already signed up for the five mile road race, the highest number of pre-entries the running club has seen for the event.

It follows a scenic route from Chippenham Rugby Club at Allington, along quiet country lanes towards Biddestone, while the family fun runs take place around the rugby club grounds.

Chippenham Harriers Chairman Mike Bright said: "Our annual five mile road race and family fun runs, organised in association with Chippenham Rugby Club, are turning into a popular yearly event in the local running calendar, and this year we have seen the highest level of pre-entries to date.

"The event has a real family atmosphere and generosity of businesses in the area means there are a number of spot prizes up for grabs, like massage treatments and vouchers for family days out."

The first male and female runners home in the five mile event will each receive a £50 cash prize, thanks to sponsorship from Norman E Webb Transport Hire and Haulage.

There will also be trophies for age category winners in and all finishers receive a medal.

The five starts at 11 mile road race starts at 11am, with registration closing at 10.30am. Entries are £10 for affiliated runners and £12 for unaffiliated runners.

The fun runs – half a mile for under sevens and a mile for eight to 14-year-olds - start at 10am, with registration closing promptly at 9.45am. Entry costs £3.
