THE county men’s national fours and triples championship semi-finals will be played at Chippenham Town today.

They have had to be switched from Sunday to today at 2pm and 6pm so as not to clash with the inter-county men’s national top two fours competition match being staged tomorrow at Rugby between Wiltshire and Warwickshire.

In the fours semi-finals, Westlecot are the only local club represented, and it is not by one of the teams containing Middleton Cup players, while, in the triples, Wootton Bassett are the only certain local qualifiers for the semi-finals this evening.

Mike Titcombe Senior’s quartet in the county national fours of Joe Mazzotta, Mike Bowden and Mike Hall have collected a couple of prize scalps on their way to the last four.

They had a bye in round one, beat James Nobbs (Wootton Bassett) in round two and accounted for Micky Crook’s foursome from Amesbury 19-16 in round three (last 16).

Then, in the quarter-finals, they trailed 6-1 at five ends, 8-5 at nine and 14-10 at 14 to a strong Bassett rink of Lawrence Smith, Dave Snell, Dave Godwin and Steve Snell before coming back to lead 20-18 at 18 and held on for a 22-21 win.

Titcombe’s rink play Holt, skipped by Ben Gadd, in the semis.

In the other semi-final another Holt team, skipped by Craig Doughty, face Spencer Moulton skipped by Graham Shadwell.

The triples semi-finals at Chippenham this evening are not as clear cut as two delayed quarter-final matches, featuring trios from both Westlecot and Holt, were only due to be played last night owing to weather problems last week. The results were not known at the time of going to press.

However, the teams for one of the triples semis are known.

It will feature last year’s county triples runners-up Wootton Bassett, who won the county title in 2012 and finished as runners-up in the national triples final at Worthing also against Shadwell’s trio from Bradford-on-Avon.
