Villagers in Hilmarton are running an art, craft and music festival this weekend to raise money for the ongoing maintenance of St Laurence Church.

The festival, on Saturday and Sunday, will run from 10am to 4pm both days at five different venues, the church itself, the church hall, the chapel, the school hall, and the community rooms at Poynder Place.

It will include an art exhibition, a cake decoration demonstration, flower arrangements and two concerts from local children and local musicians.

Val Procter is on the parochial church council and is also a member of the Knitti Natters, the village’s knitting group who have prepared a special exhibition in the school hall.

In 2012 the group hit the national headlines when they created a house made entirely out of wool and the exhibition will star knitted garments using original patterns from 1900 to 2000.

Mrs Procter said: “We have taken a year, we have been almost solidly knitting for the year. I did so much knitting I developed trigger thumb, that’s how dedicated we are, but it’s worthwhile because it’s been such good fun.

“Hopefully when people see the garments they will realise what work used to go into clothing people. It’s going to be an exciting weekend, and we will pray for good weather, but as most of it is indoors it won’t matter if we get the odd shower.”

Entry to the festival is £2.50 for adults. For details call (01249) 760312 or (01249) 760537.
