Edington village held a Walt Disney-themed scarecrow walk to raise funds for Dorothy House Hospice Care and to upgrade facilities at the village hall.

Characters included Mary Poppins and Burt the Chimney Sweep, Pinocchio and Lilo from the film Lilo and Stitch.

The scarecrow made by the Steeple Ashton Brownies was voted the best by those taking part in the walk.

They made a representation of pensioner Carl Fredrikson who starred in the 2009 animated Disney film Up.

The Three Daggers pub in Edington put together a scarecrow of the chef from the film Ratatouille and the Three Carrots Farm Shop created Rabbit from Winnie the Pooh.

The event was organised by villagers Emma Evans and Sarah Marshall.

Mrs Evans, who lives at The Weir and is on the Edington Parish Hall fundraising committee, said: “We had 21 scarecrows dotted around the village and we had a fantastic turnout due to the lovely weather.”

She moved to the village one year ago with husband Aled Evans, who works in the military.

She said: “All those that entered the competition needed to answer cryptic clues and identify the Disney film that the character starred in.

“Sixty people entered the competition but many more people just came to look.”

The Three Carrots Farm Shop also held a barbecue.

More than £400 was raised, to be split between Dorothy House Hospice Care and Edington Parish Hall.

The money raised for the parish hall will go towards building disabled toilet facilities.

The fundraising committee also has a number of other events planned, including a conker competition in October.
