An experienced horse-rider was rushed to hospital on Wednesday, after she suffered head injuries at an equestrian centre near Melksham.

A woman in her mid-30s was airlifted to the major trauma centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, after she came off her horse.

The Wiltshire Air Ambulance was called to the West Wilts Equestrian Centre on the Melksham Road near Holt shortly after noon.

Paramedic Matt Baskerville said: “It was a semi-professional horse rider.

“She was thrown from the horse and then the horse flipped over the top of her and kicked her in the head.

“She was stabilised by us and we assisted her on the scene and took her to Southmead Hospital. She was conscious, but she had quite a serious head injury.”

She has now left hospital, and is recovering at home.
