Devizes Town Council is asking for clarification on access to Devizes Canoe Club’s proposed new base at Lower Wharf following concerns raised by residents living nearby.

On Tuesday night the council’s planning committee considered the club’s planning application to change the use of the Wiltshire Council depot into a base.

After hearing concerns from a resident of Cyprus Terrace, whose home backs on to the access to Lower Wharf and from blacksmith John Girvan who has a forge at Lower Wharf, the committee agreed to defer making a recommendation on the application in order to seek more information.

Earlier this year the club was awarded £50,000 from Sport England towards the new base.
