THE sun shone as pupils from St John’s School in Marlborough celebrated the end of their GCSE exams and their Year 11 prom.
The Theatre on the Hill at the school was transformed into a glamorous venue for last friday’s event, with a marquee and fairy lights brought in to create a dazzling atmosphere.
As has become tradition, the students arrived at their prom in style, with many pulling up at the school in sports cars, military trucks, quad bikes and a vintage bus.
There were also some more unusual methods of transport including mobility scooters and a sofa, that had been pulled along by a pick-up truck.
The boys scrubbed up well for the glitzy event in suits and tuxedos while the girls added a touch of elegance to the evening with a beautiful array of colourful ball gowns and cocktail dresses.
A prom committee made up of students organised the bash, overseen by 30 members of staff. Students and staff partied with music from a band and DJ, as well as tucking into a buffet.
The night came to a close at 10pm with a fireworks display.
Many of the pupils will be staying on at the school, but for some it was a chance to say goodbye to classmates with whom they have studied for the last five years.
Kevin Jefferies, a college principal at St John’s, said: “It was a fantastic night and all the students had a really good time. It was very good all round.
“They were all dressed up and looked very glamorous.
“It was glorious weather and the fireworks display went down very well with everybody.
Mr Jefferies added: “It was a very pleasant, friendly atmosphere and everyone went home happy, with smiles on their faces.”
