HANDY Motorsport driver Simon Belcher says he is much happier with the state of his car going into this weekend’s meeting at Croft.

Following Belcher’s big crash in the third British Touring Car Championship meeting of the season at Thruxton, his car had to be almost completely rebuilt.

At Oulton Park in the last round Belcher and his team were going through the teething problems associated with a new car but he still posted solid runs, albeit having to start from the back of the grid.

Those issues, namely the power stearing problem in qualifying that saw Belcher relegated to the back of the grid for his first run, have hopefully been resolved. If that proves to be the case Belcher is confident of returning to his early season form.

“Obviously the last event we were starting with a brand new car after the crash at Thruxton, we were in a position where we were dealing with those issues,” he said “We had a power steering failure which put us on the back of the grid. We were moving forward in each race, but from the back that’s difficult.

“The first two rounds were going well, we were on track until Thruxton where we were plagued with issues, some with me and some with the car.

“It (the crash) meant we were starting again with a new car and the teething problems that come with that. It set us back really, hopefully Croft can be the turning point for us.”

Now Handy and Belcher have got past the first run out with the rebuilt car the driver is looking forward to a more competetive drive at Croft.

“The last race we got the car a lot closer to where it needed to be and we’re finding the balance again we had at Donnington,” said Belcher.

“I’m feeling altogether happier that we’ve ironed out the system, we can start pushing and get dialled in free practice ahead of qualifying.”

“Croft is a circuit I like with a fast section out the back, it’s exciting from driver’s point of view. It looks like we might have some rain which turns form on its head, sometimes in other peoples favour. Our car works well in the wet, so fingers crossed, I’m expecting a close meeting.”
