Community award winner Molly Hopkins was a VIP for the day at a Trowbridge extra care housing complex.

The 84-year-old, who is a resident at Florence Court, was chosen to open the fete, raising funds for the residents’ social calendar.

Mrs Hopkins said: ” We raised over £300 which I think is marvellous for our first event.

“We need to start some fundraising to organise trips and social events.”

Christine Newman, manager at Florence Court, said Mrs Hopskins was the ideal person to open the fete.

She said: ” Molly is always coming up with ideas. She organises a bingo night on a Thursday and sing-a-long with Molly on a Tuesday.

“She thought up the idea of the fete and the residents all came together for a great afternoon.”

Mrs Hopkins recently won the Trowbridge Town Council award for her work in the town She is a founder member of the Trowbridge/Leer Twinning Association and retired as organiser of the Studley Green Day Care Centre at the end of October 2013 after being involved with it for over 25 years.
