Students at Hardenhuish School, Chippenham, were surprised to see a Hercules plane flying low up the drive for their Year 11 prom at Grittleton House.

The plane, requested by students Katie and Kieran, arrived at the start of the night on Thursday, June 26, which was attended by hundreds of students and staff.

They made sure their arrival was equally impressive, with transport to the prom including white horses and a white carriage, a helicopter, buses, tractors and vintage cars.

Pastoral manager Alison Alcorn said the plane was a good start to a very special evening and everyone made an effort to look their best.

She said: “It was a massive plane and it was an amazing sight to watch.

“Despite the rain showers all of their smart suits and beautiful dresses formed an array of colour.

“Some had made their own outfits too, very impressive indeed. The boys looked very handsome and the girls gorgeous from head to toe.

“As their pastoral manager since year seven, I was very proud to see them looking grown up and ready to take on life post 16.”

Students enjoyed a two-course dinner at tables brightly decorated with pink, green and orange balloons, as well as entertainment from a magician.

This was followed by a disco, awards and a raffle, with prizes including an iPad mini, gift cards, speakers and a camera.

The arrival of doughnuts towards the end of the evening also proved a hit.

Mrs Alcorn said: “A lot of hard work goes into bringing together such an event and this is only made possible with the support of Hardenhuish and Grittleton staff, our suppliers and all the parents involved.

“Thank you all for contributing to the success of our evening. Great fun was had by all.”
