Students in Year 11 at Abbeyfield School, Chippenham, celebrated the end of their exams in style with a prom and a barbecue at Castle Combe Golf Club.
Around 120 students attended the prom, on June 27, organised by the school’s prom committee who chose the venue and food after speaking to fellow students.
They booked a sweet cart with pick and mix, purple coloured balloons as decorations, and Year 13 student Ben Richards as the DJ for the evening.
Jemma Virgin, head of house for year eleven, said students wore a mixture of suits, cocktail gowns and ball gowns, arriving in old-fashioned cars and even on mobility scooters.
She said: “One of the girls arrived with Hell’s Angels. A lot of students that come from the Pewsham Estate hired an old-fashioned cream double decker bus.
“One of our Year 13 students who does a lot of DJing anyway, they recommended and hired him as their DJ for the evening. They all had the opportunity to request songs.
“They were all dancing, there was a lot of energy.”
The prom committee included Callum Anslow, Gemma Howell, Amy Waterfield, Kieran Atkin, Phoebe Tomsett, Sara Eckersley, Sara Eckersley, Siddiqa Uddin, Chole Thomson and Jordan Wallace.
Desert was provided by Year 11 catering pupil Jack Lofthouse, who made hundreds of cupcakes with the help of two Year 10 students.
Miss Virgin said: “We had cake for dessert made by one of our Year 11 caterers. He wasn’t able to attend the prom night but he still wanted to be involved so he made them.”
“It was a real student event, the students ran it. It’s their prom and we wanted it to be about them. There was an awful lot of staff there, teachers from across Year 11 who wanted to come.
“They have been a really nice year group this year, they have worked really hard.
"It was really nice to see them, they have grown up and they’re finished now. It was a perfect end to the year.”
