SINGERS in the Great Western Hospital Choir sang their hearts out to raise funds for a new breast cancer treatment.

The 75-member choir formed earlier this year to celebrate their mutual love of singing, and last week’s concert at St Andrew’s Church in Chippenham marked their first official performance.

The church was packed out with more than 130 people, and the evening raised more than £1,600 for a life-changing breast cancer radiotherapy treatment that could improve the lives of 150 women in Swindon each year.

Choirmaster Jules Addison said: “We raised £1,300 in ticket sales and another £300 in donations on the night, and all the money went to the appeal because I paid all the expenses myself. I think considering it was the choir’s first outing that was a very good result.

“One of the main aims of the choir when it was formed was fundraising. It was formed to have fun too but also to help the GWH raise money, so we’ll hopefully be holding more concerts like this in the future. It’s also a cause very close to the members’ hearts. It’s a mixed choir but 90 per cent of them are women.”
