The Corsham School will only be open to sixth formers tomorrow as strike action by NUT members takes place.
Headteacher Martin Williams says in a letter to parents and carers: "Neither the governing body, nor the headteacher is legally allowed to close the school 'in sympathy' with the strike and we are not doing so.
"My main concern is the safety of the students and it is clear, given the numbers of staff who will not be at work that day, there will be insufficient staff to supervise the students in an effective manner, should the school remain open.
"We must all hope that the issues over which the industrial action has arisen are resolved as soon as possible."
