Devizes carnival and street festival organisers are desperate to find somewhere to store important items, including their iconic elephant lantern.

Devizes Outdoor Celebratory Arts (DOCA) has been given short notice of the need to vacate its storage premises in Folly Road, Devizes.

Artistic director Jo Beal said: “We are anxious to find new space the size of a small industrial unit, it could be a large garage, barn or industrial premises but it must have a large door for access and be in the Devizes or Hopton area.

“ If anyone has such a space and would be willing to donate it, even for a just a few months, we’d love to hear from them.”

DOCA organises the carnival processions, street festival and Christmas lantern parade and needs to be able to store valuable lanterns and carnival equipment between events.

Among the lanterns needing a new home is the giant elephant which wowed the crowds last November.

Former carnival artistic director Dave Buxton said the group had benefited from free loans of storage and workshop space but after to move on when other uses for the premises arise.

He said: “This has just happened to them again after a year at premises in Folly Road.

"As well as storage space the group needs workshop space for carnival and festival preparations so the current changes have come at a difficult time as the festival season is fast approaching."
