Malmesbury's second Vic Fest has raised enough money for the club to pay off some of its debts to kick off the season in August.

Malmesbury Vics football club was under water earlier this year after torrential rain flooded the pitch, causing financial problems, but the festival at the Flying Monk ground attracted 400 people and raised £2,750.

Club secretary Julie Exton said: “We said last year we would do another one because we did so well but we didn’t know we would get flooded again.

“It was a much bigger event than last year because it was over Friday and Saturday night.”

Musicians including Brian Slade, The Dirty Smooth and Coco Esq kicked off the festivities on Friday night and the fundraising continued on Saturday afternoon with a car boot sale, Junior Malmesbury’s Got Talent and an open mic session.

Saturday night entertainment was provided by Phil Cooper, Dust Bowl Children and Sky Burns Red, to name a few.

Mrs Exton said: “We have a committee of about 19 but we needed even more volunteers by the end of it. I want to say a really big well done to everyone.

“We have now got some money to start the season in August. There are things we need to buy to kick the season off and this money is going to help so much. We will be able to pay a lot of debts.

“The support has never wavered. Vic Fest, along with the beer festival last month (which raised around £4,000) means we are in a much better position than we were a few months ago.

"This has raised awareness of the club. It is much more in the community now and has been kept going by the community, who have been turning up for our events.”

Fundraising will continue with an official carnival dance on August 30 and Mrs Exton said the committee hoped to host a Vic Fest 2015.
