Budding wordsmiths can enter this year’s Calne Music and Arts Festival poetry competition by penning lines about the First World War.

The competition is run by Sue Boddington, curator at the Calne Heritage Centre, who is keen to get people forming their ideas in time for a September 20 deadline.

The festival runs from October 2-12 and winners will be invited to read their poems on October 9, as part of the event’s lunchtime series. They will also attend the finale to receive certificates.

Poems can focus on any aspect of the war, from the battlefield to the home front.

All entries will be displayed in the Calne Heritage Centre throughout October.

For more information, collect a leaflet from the Calne library, Marden House, Bank House or the Calne Heritage Centre or call on (01380) 828851.

Entries can be sent by email to poetry@cmaf.org.uk, or handed in at the Calne Heritage Centre, marked for the attention of Sue Boddington.
