Calne Aggregates’ application to increase the height of their stockpiles off Abberd Lane from three metres to five was refused by Wiltshire’s strategic planning committee yesterday.
They company said it would increase operational efficiency but councillors said they were already breaking regulations and causing a fire risk by having piles of rubbish up to eight metres high.
The cause of a fire at the site last Wednesday is being investigated.
