BBC radio producers want to hear from pupils of Kington St Michael Primary School from 40 years ago.

They are looking at Singing Together, a Radio 4 broadcast for schools from 1939 until the 1990s, to make a documentary that will mix archive recordings and personal stories.

Researchers want to track down people who remember a 1974 song, Hunting the Hare, which some Kington pupils had refused to sing.

Researcher Ruth Evans said: “I found a report by an education officer who visited Kington St Michael. He reported that the pupils enjoyed the programme but had concerns about Hunting the Hare. Some of the class had refused to sing it, or sang la-la-la in protest.

“Their teacher was called Miss Harris and they were in the top class, age nine to 11, so would be around 50 today.”

She is also keen to find wartime listeners. The BBC hoped broadcasts would keep up children’s morale. Email ruth.evans@bbc.co.uk or call on 0161 335 6450.
