A ten-year-old schoolboy officially opened the spa suite at Fairways Retirement Village in Chippenham after winning a contest to name it.

Elliot James, a pupil at Ivy Lane Primary School, impressed judges with his suggestion of The Young at Heart Wellness Spa.

He now has his name engraved on a plaque outside the pool, which was opened last Monday at the retirement village next to Chippenham Golf Club. The contest caused a splash at Ivy Lane School and more than 50 pupils entered.

Head Chris Cannings said: “Elliot was happy to win and had a lovely time being made a fuss of down there.

“He has left his little mark on Chippenham now. It’s a nice link between the older and younger generations.”

He won a Kindle and earned his school £100 worth of book vouchers.

Luke Freeman, joint managing director of Freeman Retirement Living, said: “We’re delighted that Elliot could join us and see his winning name, which suits the village perfectly, on display.”

There are still 54 one to three-bedroom apartments available, from £195,000.
