NORTH Swindon’s first ever Fun Day is looking for members of the community to help make the event a great success.

The organising committee is now recruiting for around 25 volunteers to help with stewarding at the event on September 6 at Brook Park in Redhouse as well as setting up and packing down for the sector’s first ever Fun Day, which has already seen an overwhelming amount of interest from residents and local businesses and charities.

Volunteers who might only be able to commit a few hours between 12pm and 3.30pm are also welcome to get involved, with every extra pair of hands ensuring the event is a triumph.

Kate Harding, 26, secretary to the group, said: “The community has been really supportive so far and there’s a huge social media presence, but now we just need some volunteers to help with stewarding and making sure things run smoothly.

“I don’t think we realised when we set about doing this just how much work would have to go into it, and just how many people we would need to help.

“We’ll have to get there really early in the morning to start setting up and we’ll need help packing it all down at the end, so we’re looking for people who might be able to spare just a few hours to help.”

The organising committee decided to host a Fun Day as a way of bringing the whole of the North Swindon community together.

They are already planning to expand the event into a festival in 2015.

Kate said: “This is the first time there has been an event which brings together the whole of North Swindon including places like Redhouse, Priory Vale, Oakhurst, Abbey Meads and others.

“There has been much demand from the community to do something like this and everybody is really keen for it to go ahead.”

There are already a variety of different stalls and activities already in place for everyone to enjoy, including a vintage tea tent, beer tent, a hog roast and barbecue, inflatables, street games, and stalls from Butterflies Children Centre and the 7th Swindon Scouts among others.

Sarah said: “Other places in the area have their Family Fun Day so we really wanted something that was inclusive for everyone.

“That’s why we have things like the beer tent as well as the children’s games and inflatables for the children.”

Proceeds from the day will go towards the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
