The mum of Hilperton sprinter Danny Talbot is confident her son will not be fazed by the pressure ahead of his attempt to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next week.

Margaret Talbot and husband Richard, who live in Hilperton, hopes the 23-year-old can use the confidence from his victory in the 200 metres at the Sainsbury’s British Championships in June to his advantage when he represents England at Hampden Park.

The former St Augustine’s College pupil will have the 200m heats next Wednesday, before his parents hope to fly up and support him in the semi-final and final on Thursday.

Mrs Talbot said it is a “massive” year for her son, with the Commonwealth Games followed by the European Championships in Switzer-land this August, where he won a bronze medal in 2012.

Mrs Talbot, who works as a head receptionist at Trowbridge Dental Practice, said: “It has been nerve wracking for all of us ahead of the Games as it means everything to Danny and we support him 100 per cent. The build-up has kind of been like the London Olympics all over again.

“We are really proud of him. It is a massive year for him, but he is an incredibly laid back character and absolutely nothing fazes him.

“We hope to make it out for the semis and final, but it’s difficult as we work. Sometimes I think it can be more pressure as he thinks I’m going to run on to the track.”

Mr Talbot, a bank manager, said: “He’s confident he can win a medal after winning the British Championships.”
