Saturday's storms meant a hectic weekend for Wiltshire firefighters dealing with flood and lightning damage.

Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service attended over 30 incidents and had more than 100 calls on Saturday.

Trowbridge watch manager Guy Tadman said: “We were very busy from around 9am onwards dealing with flooding and lightning strikes and it only calmed down around 6pm.

“I haven’t seen flooding like that for many years and there was a Biblical amount of rain for a long period of time. Most of the jobs involved pumping out water using an Aqua Vac.

Although there was a two hour strike by members of the Fire Brigades’ Union between 11am and 1pm, it had no impact on the storm response, as the main problems were either earlier or later in the day.
