PARENTS battling to save Swindon’s children’s centres are frustrated that an online consultation about their future isn’t working.

Swindon Council is reviewing the services with the aim of saving £770,000 as it tries to make £48m in budget cuts over the next three years. This could see seven of the town’s 12 children’s centres close and result in many job losses.

The consultation launched yesterday and is running until October 3.

Anne Snelgrove, Labour’s South Swindon Parliamentary candidate, is working with the families in their campaign to save the resources.

She said: “I had an email from a mum yesterday who couldn’t find the consultation online. I did a search and sent the link to her and then I asked the council to make the consultation more prominent. I did this purely to publicise the consultation. I got an email back saying this was okay and now it isn’t even online.

“The consultation is supposed to be open and people want to have their say but they can’t. The most important thing is that the consultation is back online as quickly as possible.”
