Devizes is hosting a public event to remember the local men who lost their lives in the First World War.
The commemoration event will involve all 189 names of the men recorded on the war memorial, in Long Street, being read out and crosses planted.
It has been organised by Devizes Royal British Legion in conjunction with Devizes town and Roundway parish councils and is being held on Sunday August 24 at 12noon at the war memorial. The date was chosen to mark the battle at Mons.
Members of the RBL, the police, fire service, ambulance service, local groups and members of the public will read out ten names followed by the planting of crosses.
After the names have been read out Canon Paul Richardson, vicar of St John’s Church, will read a short prayer.
