Corsham will have a £20,000 budget for youth services next year, under Wiltshire Council’s new community-led model.

In May the council confirmed it was changing the way its services for young people were operated, with responsibility for running youth centres devolved to the county’s 18 area boards.

Speaking at last Thursday’s Corsham Area Board, Councillor Laura Mayes, cabinet member for children’s services, set out the budget for the coming years.

The Corsham area, which includes the villages of Box, Lacock and Colerne, as well as the town itself, will have £10,845 to spend for the remainder of this year.

Then in 2015-16 the Area Board will manage a budget of £20,690.

Each of the county’s community areas will have a dedicated youth officer, who will replace the youth workers and coordinate services.

The new campus includes a room designed by youths for future activities.
