The Environment Agency, which has been investigating reports of oil sheen on the River Avon in Melksham for several weeks, says it has identified a “very likely source”.
The site responsible is taking action to stop the discharge into the drain in Scotland Road, which the Environment Agency hopes will lead to the flow of oil stopping soon.
The amount was quite small and appeared to be a biodegradable mineral oil.
