KICK-OFF: Shanley wants champions to make top-flight impact

PAUL Shanley is certain that Bradford Town will have to be on their game every single week in the upcoming campaign.
However, the manager is convinced his Trowbridge Road men have more than enough about them to make their mark in the Toolstation League Premier Division.
Bradford’s reward for dominating the First Division last season is their first-ever berth in the top tier of the Toolstation League and manager Shanley thinks that consistency will be key for his team.
Tom Welch, Beau Blakeman, Lewis Porter, Ollie Webb, Kieron Baggs and Liam Milburn have all moved on but Shanley has made a host of additions to his squad, with former Inverness Caledonian Thistle goalkeeper Ed Baldy returning to the club.
Bradford have also brought in midfielder Mark Wall from Larkhall Athletic, Longwell Green Sports winger Joe Stradling, striker Jack Hopper from Swindon Supermarine and ex-Bolton Wanderers trainee George Pawley.
“Everyone is obviously very excited at the club and the players are all looking forward to the start of the season,” said Shanley.
“It’s a higher level and the teams, especially in the top six, are going to be much stronger.
“I think it’s going to be all about consistency for us. We’ve played teams from this league in the past, like Bristol Manor Farm last season, but they’ve usually been cup games and it’s easy to get yourselves up for a one-off match.
“You’ve got to be up for it like that every week. I think that we’ll be more than good enough to do well, especially if we get off to a good start.
“A few players have moved on to try things at different places and you’re always going to get that in football - we don’t want to have anyone here that doesn’t want to be at the football club.
“But we’ve made a few good signings and hopefully we might be able to bring in a few more that have played at a higher level.”
