CHIPPENHAM Scouts will be retracing the steps of the Wiltshire Regiment 100 years ago in a walk commemorating the First World War.

Scout and Explorer groups from Chippenham and Aston Clinton in Buckinghamshire will meet up with others from Germany, Belgium and France to follow the route of the British Expeditionary Forces, where the British troops first saw action.

They set off on Thursday, August 21, and will spend three days walking the 40-mile route from Mons in Belgium to Le Cateau in France. They will then attend a commemorative service at Le Cateau on Tuesday, August 26.

Chris Jones, leader of 10th Chippenham Scout Group, said: “The hope is the scouts attending from the four nations will come away with a better understanding of the sacrifices made 100 years ago and will take the opportunity to discuss their experiences with others in their respective village and town.”

They are aim to raise £500 for charity.
