A FIRST World War recruitment office set up by Trowbridge Museum in The Shires Shopping Centre last Friday and Saturday allowed visitors to experience what it was like for soldiers at the time.
The event demonstrated how soldiers were recruited for the First World War, with a number of characters in period costume helping to ‘recruit’ people.
There were a doctor and nurse carrying out mock medicals, as well as a couple of recruiting sergeants ‘bossing’ the new recruits.
There were also some military and nursing uniforms for adults and children to try on, plus a period photography studio in which visitors could have their photographs taken.
Trowbridge Museum recently opened a new First World War-themed exhibition, entitled Snapshots of the Great War: Trowbridge 1914-1918, which looks at the impact the war had on the town and the surrounding area.
It includes items from the museum’s collections not seen before and items loaned by members of the public.
