CURRY lovers showed their generosity was second to naan when they attended a fundraiser for Prospect Hospice and Alzheimer’s Research UK this week.

The curry night at the Bombay Lounge in Peatmoor on Monday saw about 30 people enjoying a buffet filled with Indian curries and sides.

The event, organised by Adver features writer Emma Dunn and boyfriend Scott D’Arcy, also included a raffle with prizes donated by businesses across the area.

The raffle alone raised £290 and the couple are waiting to find out how much they have raised through proceeds from the curry. Both totals will be divided between the Adver’s 160 appeal and Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Emma, who is raising funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK in memory of her grandmothers, said: “It was an brilliant night and the curry was delicious. I can’t believe how generous everyone has been and both Scott and I want to thank everybody who supported us.”

The curry night was part of Emma’s fundraising before she takes on the 13.1 mile Great North Run for Alzheimer’s Research UK on September 7.

Emma said: “Sadly, both of my wonderful grandmas, Joan Reffitt and Audrey Dunn, were affected by this horrible disease.

“It was heartbreaking seeing what they went through and I want to raise as much money as I can to stop more people having similar experiences.”

Audrey, who lived in North Yorkshire, died in July 2012 at the age of 87 and Joan, who lived in Leicestershire, died in August 2013 at the age of 81.

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity specialising in finding preventions, treatments and a cure for dementia.

The Adver’s 160 appeal has now passed the £100,000 mark.

Scott said: “Thanks to everyone’s generosity we are another step closer to our £160,000 target. Thank you to everyone who helped us. Prospect Hospice is a fantastic cause and I know this money will make a huge difference.”

Scott is also taking part in a Spartan Race, a 13km obstacle course, in London later this month and is raising money for Prospect Hospice. To make life harder for himself he will be dressed in a morphsuit as comic book character Flash.

Emma and Scott thanked everyone who donated raffle prizes, including the Wyvern Theatre, New Theatre Oxford, The Core, Wood Street Food Hall, Jan Wojtowicz and Laura Clark at Wood Street Wellbeing, Blissful (beauty salon), JJ’s Hair Group, Kupu Beauty, Rusland Cookery School, Swindon Marriott Hotel, Pontins, Empire Cinema, Motorsave, Steam Museum, Toomers Garden Centre, Go Outdoors, the Oasis Leisure Centre and gym, Tenpin Bowling in Shaw Ridge, The Link Centre ice skating rink, Cineworld, Britz Fish and Chips and St Audries Bay Holiday Park in Somerset.
