STAFF members at Morrisons in Haydon Wick have been jumping on their bikes this weekend to raise money for charity.

Helped by the local community they are hoping to cycle 222 miles over two days in a bid to raise £1,000 for Sue Ryder, which provides hospice care.

With two gym bikes at the front of the store, workers spent 15 minutes at a time to help reach their target.

They were also given help by local police officers, PCSOs Ashlee John and Dominic Tonge who hopped on to do their bit.

They started on Friday morning and will be continuing the task today.

Becky Frankland, who is the community champion for the store, said: “All the Morrisons across the South West have been set a challenge to cycle 24,902 miles, which is the circumference of the earth.

“Each store has been set its individual target so we are looking to reach that.

“Lots of the staff are coming forward to do their bit and the customers, who can have a go if they want are being really supportive.

“We have a Hawaiian theme and are also running a raffle and cake sale to help us reach the target.”
