DISNEY princess Elsa from Frozen helped staff at the Tesco Express in Redhouse become the latest contenders to take part in the Ice Bucket Challenge for charity.

Scores crowded to the store in Redhouse yesterday to watch Craig Gunn, Jackie Griffiths, Bradley Smith and Nathan Neate take part in the latest charitable craze in aid of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

For the past month challengers have nominated their friends, family members and colleagues to film themselves being doused with icy water within 24 hours of being nominated to raise awareness of the condition. They are then expected to make a donation before nominating someone else.

Mark Waring Jones, deputy manager at the store, said: “They were all nominated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge so I organised for Elsa from Frozen to come along and give them the dousing.

“There was a good turn out from the community as well, they were all really, really supportive.

“We said that for every £5 that was donated they’d get a bucket thrown over them until they had all had three buckets full.

“We’ve raised about £60 so far and we’re going to leave the buckets out so more people can donate if they want to.”

The colleagues have now chosen to nominate their colleague Mark Gill and their deputy manager for the challenge.

Nathan, the store manager, was one of the people who took part in the challenge.

He said: “It’s all for charity, and the biggest thing is about awareness.

“Not a lot of people know about ALS and the Ice Bucket Challenge helps raise money, but it’s also been about raising awareness. It’s fun and you can have a bit of a laugh with it and that’s why everyone is doing it, and while that’s going on more and more people get to know about it.”

Elsa was invited to come along after Mark got in touch with Princess and the Spider company.

Even some of Swindon’s most respected leaders have taken part in the challenge after Mark Dempsey, the Labour party’s parlimentary candidate for North Swindon and councillor for Walcot and Park North, was nominated for the challenge by his colleague, Jim Robbins (Lab, Mannington & Western).

In turn, Mark Dempsey challenged Justin Tomlinson, MP for North Swindon to the challenge.
