VINTAGE To The Core is set to return to Devizes Road next week when charity Empower hosts its second pop-up shop.

The charity, which supports numerous projects in the Gambia, has long held monthly fashion shows and bargain nights to supplement fundraising efforts.

As the interest in the fashion nights increased, Jo Heaven, who founded the charity, decided the time was right to expand into a monthly pop-up shop.

The opening weekend earlier this month raised more than £520, which covered the majority of the £568 cost of the shipment of 44 crates of resources for Gambian projects.

She said: “A massive thank you to the traders and particularly The Core and especially everyone who volunteered and made this happen.

“Now the crates have all been shipped and this time we’re fundraising for the crates to be transported from the coast to where our projects are.

“We need to raise around £188 for that so we’re hoping to raise even more.”

On September 6 and September 7 the project will again take up shop above The Core offering a range of wares to buyers between 11am and 4pm on both days.

Clothes will run along a number of themes, including Autumn Hues, The Office, Indian Summer, Spots and Stripes, Exotic Nights and Rock Chic.

There will also be a cosmetics workshop on September 6 hosted by Cherish Wellbeing, and bargains in jewellery, shoes, and other accessories will be available.

Visitors will also be able to donate their pre-loved and cherished items, and take part in a frock swap on the Sunday, September 7 between 2pm and 4pm.

Jo said: “About 100 people came along last time and now we are looking for even more.

“We’re bringing out our autumnal wear and so even if people came along last time it’s all brand new stuff.

“We have designer labels from Karen Millen and Monsoon and many others too, and nothing costs more than £25.

“We also have brand new, with the labels still in underwear and other accessories.

“There will also be trade stalls for people to come and browse as well.

“As a little girl I always wanted my own clothes shop so this is a bit of a dream come true for me.

“I just love clothes, and I love fabrics.

“And I think a lot of women think the same as I do about clothes and are looking for something unique to make them stand out, so it struck me as something worth doing.

“It’s also a fantastic venue, people can come along and have a drink or a smoothie in The Core before coming upstairs, and the team at The Core have been so supportive and so helpful.”
