THE next generation of the computer security industry was put to the test at cyber camp running at the Defence Academy in Shrivenham.

Around 50 people took part in a set of challenges, between Wednesday and Friday, at the event organised by Cyber Security Challenge UK. Half the participants were military personnel with the remainder being members of the public.

The aim of the event was to develop the group’s cyber defence skills with the hope of improving their career prospects. One of the challenges faced, by those who attended the camp, was to identify website vulnerabilities.

Stephanie Damon, the Cyber Security Challenge’s chief executive officer, said: “The camp provides people with the opportunity to develop their skills and network with professionals.

“This is the first time that we have had military and civilians together. There seems to be a good blend to the group.”

During the camp experts from cyber defence companies including Sophos, GCHQ, PwC and C3ia were on-hand to provide advice.

The Cyber Security Challenge is a series of national competitions, learning programmes and networking events designed to identify those with a future in the industry.
