A miniature train accident at Longleat Adventure Park is being investigated by the rail watchdog, according to the BBC.

Six people were hurt when the Jungle Express train derailed at the Wiltshire park on August 2, one woman being flown to hospital for treatment to a broken leg by the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

The Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) said a similar incident in September 2011 was not examined by them as it was not aware of it.

Two carriages came off the track on August 20 as the train - carrying 155 passengers - was coming into the park's main square.

The ORR regulates health and safety for the mainline rail network in Britain, as well as London Underground, light rail, trams and the heritage sector.

A spokesman said its remit also included monorails and said the Longleat railway fell within its remit as the track gauge is greater than 350mm (13.8 in).

In a statement issued on August 20, Steve Mytton, Longleat public relations manager, said: "There was an incident involving the miniature train at Longleat where two carriages came off the track as the train was coasting into the station.

"One carriage went on to its side and the other remained upright, the other carriages stayed on the track.

"Staff immediately instigated the emergency procedure to safely evacuate all passengers from the train and the emergency services were notified.

"There were 155 people on the train at the time. At this time there are three people confirmed to have sustained injuries and have been taken to hospital.

"Staff are currently undertaking a thorough investigation into what caused the incident and the railway will remain closed during this time."

Today he said: "I can confirm the miniature railway is still closed while an investigation is being carried out, led by the HSE (Health and Safety Executive)."
