People in Sherston are being urged to take a once-in-a-decade chance to help shape the future of their village by having a say over the next few weeks in an emerging neighbourhood plan.

Over the past 18 months a range of issues have been identified by a steering group as being of most significance to the community, from a new GP’s surgery to the provision of high-speed broadband.

Now an exhibition is being staged next weekend which will outline options on how Sherston could evolve and what new facilities people would like to see during the next 12 years.

The plan, which will serve as a blueprint for development until 2026, is being drawn up by a local steering group with the aid of planning consultants Foxley Tagg.

Parish council chair John Matthews said it was time for key decisions to be made and stressed that it was vital for local people to have their say.

He said: “We think Sherston is a very special place and we want to be able to maintain and enhance its facilities.”

The plan was looking to outline appropriate locations for a “limited amount of additional housing in the village to meet future needs”.

Other issues included the possible provision for facilities such a GP surgery, better accommodation for pre-school children and room for expansion of the primary school.

An exhibition will take place at the village hall on Saturday, September 20 from 9am-4pm. The following day the exhibition will be on from 9am-11.30am.
